Imagine, if you can, being 15 in Afghanistan today. That’s the average age of people in Afghanistan right now. All you’ve ever know is American Kabul, and that’s just disappeared. For boys, a short life in the military is the best you can hope for. For girls, no more education, no more hoping for a better future, just an early marriage and a life of servitude.
Nothing we can say or do is enough. All that is left us is to cry out to God for the people, the children, the dying; and then reach out our hand to international support organisations, to those who assist refugees to resettle, and to welcome our new neighbours with clothing, toiletries, food, and most of all, with love.
Carolyn selected CRADLE SONG, Away in a Manger, as the melody for these words to convey the gentleness and peacefulness that the people of Afghanistan so desperately need. She didn’t spell out any scripture references for this hymn, but I’m sure you can think of many. If you’re stuck, start with the Good Samaritan and Jesus’ explanation of who our neighbours are.
Listen to the backing track, or preview the Lyric Video on our YouTube Channel. Of course, your purchased version won't have the voice-over advert that's in the preview video.
Carolyn's hymns are only available for free use during this time of COVID, so these tracks will only be available for a limited time. All three versions are available for free download until Carolyn withdraws her offer.
Available as audio only, or as a Lyric Video in two sizes, this setting is a comfortable sing for all congregations.
