REST is perhaps my most favourite melody from my childhood. And the accompanying phrase "speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire, O still, small voice of calm!" stuck with me enough that finally, some 50 years later, when the internet came along I was able to find the hymn again.
I’ve tried to give a sense of depth and calm in the orchestration. There is movement, but it’s quite subtle, pushed back behind the layers of instruments playing the melody in unison. There is an introduction, 4 verses, and a coda, which gives us a duration of about 3 minutes.
All the download files include a copy of the text that I used in the sung version, but of course you don’t have to use that. Feel free to simply enjoy the music, with or without the accompanying image. Alternatively, sing along using the text of your choice. Or build your own slideshow on top of the audio track. Yes, I’m quite happy for you to do that – that’s within the terms of use of your license.
