Many and Great

The biggest problem I have with researching hymns is that there are so many really great ones out there. I could go back to the hymnbook I used as a child, and still discover texts I’ve never sung. Now, the internet provides an ever-flowing fountain of poems and melodies that I wish I had more time to fully explore.

So when I found Many and Great, I knew I had to make an arrangement of it. With the Season of Creation about to start, I squeezed it into the plan for September.
Joseph Renville, of the Dakota people in North America, wrote this hymn based on Jeremiah 10:12-13 along with the melody in 1842. It was printed in Dakota language hymnals for over 80 years before Philip Frazier translated the first and last verses and made it accessible to the English-speaking church.

I’ve spent this past week putting this setting together, ready to share with you. I do hope you enjoy it.

Listen to the Audio file here, or preview the SD version on YouTube.

There are only 2 verses in this hymn, so I've allowed the musicians to continue for a wee while after the words end. It available as audio only (the text is included in the download file), or as a Lyric Video in two sizes, in a setting which is a comfortable sing for all congregations.

Vouchers for free access to Lyric Videos are available to our supporters through our Patreon page.
