This paraphrase of Psalm 100 and the tune OLD HUNDREDTH were both written in the middle of the 16th century, and the melody was well known in Germany when JS Bach used it as a basis for his cantata Herr Gott, dich loben alle wir. (BWV 130).

I made this orchestration back in February as part of the Meditations for Lent collection. It was the first arrangement I created in the Singing with the Masters series. I spent a few days diving into the Cantata and used some of Bach’s lovely countermelodies, although I had to rather reduce the complexity of Bach’s intertwining phrases for clarity.

Back in February, I was recording with my Shure microphone, which has a very nice tone but tends to issues with plosives. Since then it’s been lurking on my hard drive waiting for a final cleanup and mix so I could publish it.
